The African Debate Series brings prolific intellectuals and experts together for a battle of ideas with the goal of presuading a live audience towards one side of a debate or the other.

African Debate Series gives the audience a platform to challenge, engage and grow their understanding on various issues related to African development such as human rights, conflict resolution, sustainability, economic growth. The African Debate Series also provides a unique opportunity for professionals from different countries or disciplines to network and share best practices and strategies with one another.

The Show

The goal of the Debate is to sway the audience’s vote.  Topics range from religious to inter-continental politics

  • 1ST VOTE:  A topic for debate is proposed and outlined by the board of advisors, with a panel/team (composed of two or three speakers) arguing for and against the motion.
  • Opening Statement: The debate begins with an opening statement from all participants on both sides
    (3
     minutes each)
  • Moderator’s Questions: the moderator questions the teams. 
  • Each team member addresses 1 question to the other side
    (
    1 Question each)
  • Before the final vote is taken, the audience poses questions to the panel. 
  • Closing Statements
    (3
     minutes each)
  • 2ND VOTE: After the Debate, the audience vote for or against the motion set forth once again.


The winner is whoever sways the most votes.

The African Debate Series is a platform that brings together prolific intellectuals and experts to engage in thought-provoking debates on contemporary African issues. The goal is to persuade a live audience on various motions while raising awareness and funds for innovative initiatives that benefit African communities.

The debates are open to everyone, including members of the Africentric diaspora community, academia, student organizations, religious and professional groups, and anyone interested in engaging in higher-level intellectual discourse on African matters.

Tickets are priced at $20 each. You can purchase tickets directly through our website or Eventbrite. Alternatively, you can become a paid subscriber to the debate series for $7 a month, which gives you full access to every event and exclusive online access to past debates and additional content. 

The debates are held at various venues. Details for each event, including the venue, are provided on the event page. Some debates may also be live-streamed online for subscribers.

Topics range from religious issues to inter-continental politics and other pressing contemporary African matters. Examples include “The Nigerian Constitution Should Be Revised” and other significant issues affecting the African continent.

Our panelists are selected based on their expertise and experience in the topic being debated. They are prolific intellectuals, scholars, and experts who bring diverse perspectives to the table.
